Question by hockeywife23: Amazing ideas for decorating a spare bedroom which will eventually be a nursery?
I'm looking for something REALLY grown up but will make the easy transition to nursery. I need the most help with paint colours, and I'm trying to stay away from green.

Do shabby chic with white/creme lace and floral, very whimsical and floral and sophisticated, very English Tea garden... my mother decorated our parlor room like this, it's so beautiful and breezy and light, perfect for a nursery transition. When decorating a nursery stay away from yellow hues, research has shown it causes a baby to cry MORE.

Perhaps creating a neutral setting, like mocha walls and white moldings, and then accenting the room with color in drapes, area rugs and crib bedding will make it interchangeable at a very low cost.

One of my favorite nurseries has got to be the one on Father of the Bride II, it was classic and timeless.

I would go with an ecru and dress it up with the furniture & accessories. That way, when the baby comes, it’s an easy transition. I’m thinking a pretty dark wood for a bed and any other furniture (that is, if you don’t already have furniture). With a neutral color bed and neutral walls, you can add whatever 3rd color you’d like (I like red). Then accessorize w/pictures, lamps, throws,etc…

My personal favorite is “Mod” decor for an easy transition. Colors like aqua, any shade of brown, or gray with sleek and streamlined furnishings look great for any age. You can mix it up with fun retro and vintage accents and when its time for your baby add whatever gender of fun circles in blue or pinks. There are some adorable baby crib sets like Stokke, BabyLetto, Oeuf, and Berg that fit perfectly.
